Pascal's Law & Pressure
Pascal's Law is the foundational principle of all hydraulic systems: pressure applied to a confined fluid is transmitted equally in all directions throughout that fluid. This allows small forces on small pistons to generate enormous forces on large pistons.
Pressure, defined as force per unit area, is the currency of fluid power. Understanding gauge versus absolute pressure, pressure drops through restrictions, and hydrostatic pressure in columns of fluid is essential for circuit design.
