Phonetics & Phonology

Phonetics is the study of the physical sounds of human speech, examining how sounds are produced, transmitted, and perceived. Phonology builds on this by analyzing how sounds function within a specific language system.

Together, these fields help us understand why certain sound combinations are permitted in some languages but not others, and how speakers unconsciously follow phonological rules.
